Types of channel letters we build

Not sure which fits your building? Send a photo and we'll recommend the right option in your free mockup.

Front-lit channel letters example 01.

Front-lit channel letters

Translucent acrylic faces with LEDs inside each letter. The most common choice for retail storefronts because they read clearly day and night.

Reverse-lit (halo-lit) letters example 02.

Reverse-lit (halo-lit) letters

Solid aluminum faces with LEDs that shine back onto the wall to create a soft halo. A good fit for offices, restaurants and upscale retail.

Front and back lit letters example 03.

Front and back lit letters

A lit face plus a halo glow behind the letter. It gives the most presence at night and adds depth to the sign.

Raceway-mounted letters example 04.

Raceway-mounted letters

Letters mounted on a slim aluminum box that holds the wiring and power supplies. Common in shopping centers and leased spaces where wall penetrations need to be kept to a minimum.

Open-face letters example 05.

Open-face letters

Letters with no acrylic face, showing exposed LED or neon-style lighting inside. Popular for restaurants and a vintage look.

Non-lit dimensional letters example 06.

Non-lit dimensional letters

Fabricated aluminum letters without lighting. A clean option for daytime businesses, lobbies or locations where sign codes limit illumination.

How are channel letter signs built?

A channel letter is a hollow, three-dimensional letter. We cut the back from aluminum, bend aluminum returns to form the sides, and close the front with an acrylic face held in place by trim cap. LED modules mount inside the letter and run off a low-voltage power supply.

Here is what goes into a typical set:

  • Aluminum returns painted to match your brand color, so the sides look clean from any angle.
  • Acrylic faces in standard colors, or white acrylic with translucent vinyl when you need an exact brand match.
  • UL-listed LED modules and power supplies, which inspectors and landlords expect to see on a lit sign.
  • Weep holes in the bottom of each letter so moisture from rain or condensation can drain out.

Before anything is cut, we lay out the letters to scale, check them against your wall and send you a 3D mockup. That is when you see the size, color and spacing on your actual building, not on a generic template. Changes at this stage cost nothing.

Raceway or flush mount: which is right for your storefront?

Flush-mounted letters attach directly to the wall. Each letter gets its own wiring penetration, and the power supplies sit behind the wall or inside the letters. This gives the cleanest look, with nothing between the letters but your building.

Raceway-mounted letters sit on a narrow aluminum box that holds the wiring and power supplies. The raceway is painted to match the wall and needs only a few penetrations. Raceways make sense when:

  • Your landlord or shopping center sign criteria requires them.
  • You lease the space and want fewer holes in the fascia.
  • There is no access behind the wall to run wiring.
  • You expect to move or rebrand in a few years.

A backer panel is a third option. The letters mount to a painted aluminum panel, which helps on heavy stucco texture, stone or busy facades. We look at your wall, your lease and your sign criteria, then recommend the mounting that will pass approval and look right on your building.

Channel letter signs for Inland Empire and Southern California businesses

We build channel letters for retail shops, restaurants, medical offices, gyms and shopping center tenants across Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Orange County and Los Angeles County. Most projects start with a phone call and a photo of the building.

Here is how a typical project runs:

  • Free 3D mockup and itemized quote within 24 hours, so you see the sign and the cost before you commit.
  • Permits and landlord approval. We prepare the drawings, handle the city sign permit and put together the landlord or property manager approval package.
  • Fabrication of the letters, raceway and electrical components.
  • Installation by our own crew, including sealing every penetration and connecting the sign to its circuit.

We also work with general contractors and property managers on new builds, tenant improvements and rebrands. If you are opening a new location or replacing an old cabinet sign, call 951-552-0709 and we will start with your mockup.

Why Tov Sign

What you get with every project

Visible day and night

Lit letters keep your name readable after dark, when a lot of customers drive by on the way home.

Low energy LED lighting

LED modules use far less power than old neon and fluorescent signs, and they run cool.

Built for local sun

Painted aluminum returns, UV-stable acrylic and outdoor-rated vinyl are made to handle Inland Empire heat and sun.

Fits your sign criteria

We size and spec letters to your center's sign criteria and your city's code, so approvals go smoother.

Channel Letters FAQ

Channel Letters questions, answered

Still have a question? Call or text 951-552-0709.

Price depends on letter height, number of letters, lighting type, mounting method and installation access. A short name in modest letters costs far less than a large logo with halo lighting on a two-story wall. We send an itemized quote within 24 hours so you can see what each part costs and adjust if needed.

Most of the timeline is permits and landlord approval, not fabrication. Approval times vary by city and by property manager, so we give you a realistic schedule once we know your address. We start fabrication as soon as approvals are in hand.

Almost always. Most Southern California cities require a sign permit, and lit signs usually need electrical review as well. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit for you.

Most shopping centers and commercial buildings have sign criteria that set letter height, colors, lighting and mounting. We review your criteria, design the sign to fit it and prepare the landlord approval package. If your lease has no criteria, we work with the property manager directly.

LED channel letters use much less power than older neon or fluorescent signs. Actual use depends on the size of the sign and how many hours it runs each night. A timer or photocell keeps it off during daylight so you only pay for the hours that matter.

Painted aluminum returns, UV-stable acrylic and LED modules are made for outdoor use and handle Inland Empire heat well. Colored faces in direct sun can fade slowly over many years, and we can help you pick colors that hold up best on your wall. Maintenance is light: wipe the faces now and then, and call us if a section goes dark, since a single LED module or power supply can usually be replaced without removing the letter.

Yes. We create a free 3D mockup of the sign on a photo of your building, drawn to scale, and you can change size, color or lighting before anything is built. If you don't have a logo file, send a photo, business card or sketch and our designer will rebuild it for production.

Approve before we build

You sign off on the final proof before anything goes into production.

Built right or we remake it

If your sign doesn't match the approved proof, we fix it at our cost.

Permits handled

City submittals and landlord packages are part of the job, not your homework.
